Ghana’s population now 30.8 Million – Statical service
Provisional figures from the Ghana Statistical Service puts Ghana’s current population at 30.8 million.
This forms part of the outcome of the 2021 Population and Housing Census, which started in June.
According to Government Statistician, Prof Samuel Kobina Annim, this represents a 6.1 million increase from the 24.7 million recorded during the last count in 2010.
The gender demography also revealed that 50.7% of the national figure are females while males make up 49.3%.

Speaking to stakeholders in Accra during the announcement, the Statistician described the 2.1% growth rate recorded as the slowest since independence.
Per the 2021 PHC computations, “Ghana’s population has grown five-fold over the past seven decades,” Prof Annim said on Wednesday, September 22.
Greater Accra remains the most populated area with 5.4 million people, compared to the 4 million recorded in 2010. It is followed by the Ashanti Region’s 5.4 million from 4.8 million recorded during the last count.
The Ahafo Region, however, has the smallest population with 600,000 people.
Meanwhile, the final results of the 2021 PHC are expected to be announced in November 2021.
But the Statistical Service believes that certified figures in the day will not vary significantly from what has been revealed on Wednesday.

Rather than a private celebration, she chose to extend love and support to both Save Them Young Orphanage and James Camp Prisons in Tema and Korle Gonno respectively.
This underscores the importance she places on service to others on such a milestone occasion. Accompanied by members of Global Revival Ministries, Rev. Mrs. Ampiah-Kwofi donated essential food items such as such as cooking oil, rice, diary products, bread, maize, frozen foods, clothing and other valuable materials to support the welfare of the underprivileged children at the orphanage.
During the visit, the children received words of encouragement, hope,compassion, and joy, leaving a lasting impact on their spirits. The outreach was part of a broader birthday charity initiative, which involved a visit to the James Camp Prisons at Korle Gonno, where the inmates also received valuable food items. The gesture reflected a deep commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities and promoting sustainable social development.
The 60th birthday celebration of Rev. Mrs. Adwoa Abrafi Ampiah-Kwofi thus stood not only as a personal milestone but also as a meaningful demonstration of faith in action and service to humanity.

Marking this year’s World Prematurity Day, the SFD Foundation led by Flora Aboyinga, Preterm Births Project Coordinator; held a community engagement event at Tizza Mwafo in Jirapa district on 17th November 2025. The global theme, “Give preterm babies a strong start for a hopeful future,” this aligns with Ghana’s “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures” campaign, promoting quality care for preterm babies to boost maternal and newborn health.
Miss Flora urged parents of “babies born too soon” to support their children’s development, highlighting the effects, dangers and prevention of preterm births.
She encouraged women and men in attendance to prioritize prevention. She expressed her appreciation to the men for participating, noting that though the event was women-focused, their involvement was welcome, and stressed the importance of men supporting their wives during pregnancy to ensure healthy births.
The event was interactive, with a Q&A session. Over 40 women and men attended.
